TCP Performance in Wireless Mesh Networks
- Assigned to: Martin Stigge, Gregor Kopf
Abstract
- TCP in multihop wireless networks suffers bad performance, for example due to congestion control.
- We want to improve TCP's performance in the BRN without modifying the clients' TCP-stacks: Only the software on the BRN-routers is in our scope.
- The transport of data through the BRN (especially routing etc.) is not within our scope. We assume, that the BRN offers a way to transport data from one node to another.
- If successful, clients will be able to use TCP in the BRN without (with less of) the performance problems TCP has in ”normal” multihop wireless networks.
Literature
- RFC for TCP congestion control: http://rfc.sunsite.dk/rfc/rfc2581.html
- List of relevant conferences, standards organizations to follow up with.
Competition
- competing technologies, companies/research teams
Personal Knowledge Base
- Our approach is to use TCP proxies on the BRN nodes to buffer and acknowledge the tcp packets for the actual clients. The proxies will use the BRN infrastructure to transport data through the network.
- Results so far (reports, experiments downloadable software, ...)
Project Plan: Working Packages
- List of tasks, milestones with deadlines, and deliverables
